FAQs1. Will the SoundLink™ system play music from a source other than my computer?Yes.
Although designed to wirelessly play audio from your computer, the
system has an auxiliary input for another audio device, such as an MP3
player, portable CD player or music phone. You can switch back and
forth with the press of a button on the handy remote. 2. Does the SoundLink™ system run only on battery power? No. In addition to the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the system includes a power cord for plugging into an AC wall outlet. 3. How long is the battery life? That
depends on many factors such as volume level and audio content. At
maximum volume, the SoundLink™ system battery will last approximately
three hours. At lower volume levels, the battery will last considerably
longer. Recharge the battery or use an optional spare for additional
playing time. 4. What is the range of the wireless signal from my computer to the SoundLink™ system? The
USB key, when plugged into your computer, sends audio up to 60 feet in
all directions to the SoundLink™ system, depending on thickness of
walls and construction materials used. 5. Are there any minimum system requirements for using the SoundLink™ system? No. The SoundLink™ system works with any Mac or PC, on any operating system, as long as the computer has an available USB port. 6. Do I need an existing wireless network in my home to use the system? No. The SoundLink™ system has its own dedicated wireless link. However, it will not interfere with your existing wireless network or phones. |
Mikes ThoughtsBose showed this new product to a group of invited dealers in London, early in September. Unusually for Bose there was no reveal (they start with a large covered box and play large music, then reveal the small new Bose product). This was probably because the computer that controlled the reveal was misbehaving. For me, that’s the thing. Computers misbehave so when you get a product that really is plug and play like the Bose SoundLink™ wireless digital music system it’s a God send for normal people. The product sounds superb and is easy to control. It does not rely on your existing broadband or wireless infrastructure it just works. If you are the type of person who has iTunes on your computer or is starting to down load and store then this is for you. If your Hi-fi is not linked to your computer or you travel with a laptop then this is really for you. If you are one of the reviewers who want to know how it works, how many watts it is, how long the battery will last, what’s inside, then it’s probably not for you. Why are reviewers obsessed with information that most people just don’t care about. It does not matter how many watts it is, just what it sounds like. I bought and blew up some 1000 watt car speakers from Dixons 25 years ago before I discovered there was more to speakers than watts. The battery lasts for 3 hours at full volume, but no one would play it at full volume, so it lasts a longer time at lower volumes, what’s mysterious about that? It has Bose patented wave guide technology inside, it does not matter that Bose are a bit secretive about this, it works. You can not get the volume and quality of sound from any device that is the same size or often much bigger as Bose gets from it’s wave products. Come to my shop and I will demonstrate. ALSO > I have the Bose Wave CD/Radio in the shop and near by are Roberts products with the same spec and same size for half the price, but they only sound half as good. We also have a Vita R4 which is twice the size but same price and which certainly sounds as good but very different. If you don’t like the Bose sound then buy something else but if you want quality from a neat small enclosure Bose does it better than anyone. Evidence, we sell (or facilitate the sale of) more Bose Wave radios than any other similar products and in a level playing field A/B test most people prefer the Bose. We get very few Hi-fi experts in our shop but we do get many people who like music. They are the people who buy Bose and to by quite honest, I am glad. |
